ABOUT THE MUSIC GUERRILLA MISSION: WAGE MUSIC!

The Music Guerrilla is a registered 501c3 that uses music to provide traditional, cross-curricular and non-traditional educational opportunities spanning a variety of musical genres, with a special emphasis on underserved/under-funded programs. It accomplishes its mission primarily through:
-Traditional instrumental rehearsal clinics
-Primary school instrumental presentations (with Maestro Hilarioso)
-Cross-curricular lectures in other “core” curriculum classes (e.g. English, Math & History)
-1-day and extended residencies
-Guest conducting appearances
-M2P: the Music Partner Program

This innovative approach transcends cultural, societal, educational and musical boundaries, and in so doing, allows each participant an opportunity to not only grow musically, but to grow as a whole person.

ABOUT THE MUSIC PARTNER PROGRAM (M2P):

BENEFITS:

  • Recognition via The Music Guerrilla social media and print acknowledging your school
program (w/link) as a TMG M2P Partner School, along with the school you are supporting.
  • An opportunity for your students to learn about the culture in another areas/countries via a common language: music!
  • Great cross-curricular learning opportunities with other teachers in your school.
  • Teach compassion, volunteerism and the benefits – and power – of enabling those who have the desire, but need the means to achieve their musical and personal goals.
  • No required minimum financial commitment.

YOUR GOOD-FAITH COMMITMENT:

  • Have an accessories collection/fundraiser:
    -reeds
    -cork grease
    -valve oil
    -mouthpieces
    -cleaning supplies
    -simple repair kit/items
    -incidentals
    -pieces to perform
    -method books
    -pedagogy books
  • Have a fundraiser to help assist The Music Guerrilla with visits and residencies to not
only your partner school location, but to help Wage Music at other locations!
  • When possible, assist with instrumentation needs.
  • Provide notes from your musicians to your sister school’s musicians/sections.

Other ideas to consider:

  • bringing a teacher from another area or country to your school to shadow/learn
    for a week!
  • going to visit your sister school and help for a week!
  • teach/perform at a summer camp your partner-school is involved in

ADDITIONAL SUGGESTIONS TO SUPPORT YOUR PARTNER SCHOOL:

  • Pass the hat at a concert!
  • Ask to Dr. Allen to come speak to your band members or concert audience about your sister-school, or The Music Guerrilla in general. (Perhaps even include a short
residency or guest-conducting opportunity! Currently, all funds resulting from appearances by Dr. Milt Allen go directly to The Music Guerrilla to create opportunities for others.)
  • Have a focussed fundraiser, e.g. car wash, spaghetti dinner, candy sale, etc.

WHY USE THE MUSIC GUERRILLA?

  • TMG provides a 1-stop connection regarding all needs with your partner school, while eliminating challenges when dealing wth programs across the continent or across the world. Languages? Customs? Time zones? Updates? Questions? Specific and general program information? That’s why we’re here!
  • TMG knows the program your group is partnered with. Our foundation has had “boots on the ground” and has first-hand knowledge of your partner’s situation and needs. Dr. Allen (Founder/Executive Director) personally visits and interacts with every potential partner school in order to give you and your organization the most pertinent, honest and helpful information possible.
  • TMG is a registered 501.c3, grass-roots, “we can do this/let’s make it happen”-type of organization, dedicated to Waging Music NOW, without having to be profit-centered. Nope: we don’t have to drink anybody’s Kool-aide. TMG relies on donations, benefactors and interested organizations to support it’s mission, as well as social media and word of mouth to make others aware and solicit support. (Yes, it’s old school, but we like it that way!)
  • You benefit from the experience of an organization led by a recognized leader in the music education field – Dr. Milt Allen – with a variety of program experience and resource. Dr. Allen is also happy to come to your school to guest conduct, clinic and give you and your students first-hand information about your partner school. (Note: any funds received by Dr. Allen are put toward the TMG mission, from clinics to honor bands!)
  • Your first musical priority is to your students. Let TMG help provide this fantastic, secondary musical benefit for your student’s as well as your curriculum! The lives you change may not only be your partner school’s!
